RMS: Chapter 44

Chapter 44

Just as any regular organization, the Su family had to hold many meetings periodically which Su Bai had hated for how long and boring they were. As the head of the Su family, he had to listen to the reports from his subordinates from beginning to end. Occasionally, he would also gave false praises to motivate them.

The family’s second quarterly meeting was held on time in an old castle in a town in England, but unlike previous years, there was an absence this year.

The Su family’s businesses, which were involved in a variety of industries, started out as a family system and evolved into something more corporate, lining with the market economy when Su Bai’s grandfather took over. Nowadays, the Su family not only selected capable people from inside the family but also trained outsiders. Chen Yuan was one of the best examples.

The Su family members were already seated at the long oval table, but the top seat was empty, as with the right seat beside it.

“Even if Chen Yuan doesn’t come, why hasn’t Su Qicheng come yet?” A pretty young woman in her early twenties sat in the seat to the left of the top seat, her polished red nails gently ruffling her big curly hair.

Opposite her was a rather demure middle-aged woman, a handsome European man kneeling next to her rubbing the woman’s calves. The middle-aged woman sneered twice, her well-kept hands gently rubbing the small curly brown hair of the man beside her, vermilion lips slightly open, “Little Yu, how do you think this meeting should be held? Chen Yuan is being held in Hong Kong by Ye Ziwu and won’t be back for a few days. Now it’s just a few of us now.”

“Aunt Hong, can the Su family’s meeting not be held without that Chen?” The young woman’s name was Su Yu, Su Bai’s niece. Her parents had died in an accident when she was a child, and she was then brought up almost single-handedly by Su Bai. Now in charge of the antique business in the Su family due to her fondness of antiques, she was also involved in smuggling.

Su Yu glanced at the little white face next to the woman opposite her and sneered, “This Su family has been chaotic enough since the one surnamed Chen took over, and the rules set by Master Su have been broken by someone explicitly.”

“Master Su has already gone. We should also look ahead, Little Yu. We’re not the only ones here, that’s not a good thing to say in front of others.” Su Hong deliberately misinterpreted the other party’s words.

The two women were at each other’s throats, and in face of the two most powerful women in the Su family, everyone else kept silent to avoid getting involved in the battle. Fortunately, the two women’s argument did not last long before they were broken up by a sudden crowd.

Su Yu caught sight of the huge white figure and cursed, “Su Qicheng, I thought you were dead at the gambling table!”

“Sister Yu is here, how could Qicheng not come? If I had to, I’d crawl to see you.” The tall, white and fat Su Qicheng walked in with a smile, his flesh trembling. Greeting Su Yu and then looking at the other woman, he bent slightly with a smile so big that the flesh on his face was piled up, “Oh hey, Aunt Hong is getting younger and prettier.”

Aunt Hong spat and glared at Su Qicheng with her phoenix eyes, “Su Qicheng, this is a private meeting of the Su family, what kind of messy people have you brought over here?”

Su Qicheng stood to the side, his voice raised like a tenor, and raised his jaw, “Let me introduce Su Mo, our Master Su’s designated heir.”

Su Bai and Tang Xiao followed Su Qicheng into the conference room and the Su family immediately whispered to each other. The mercenary organization T announced to take over Su’s will, but they did not expect that today would be the day. In view of Chen Yuan suddenly being trapped in Hong Kong, the whole thing had inevitably made people think a lot more.

“Yo, Su Qicheng, besides gambling on cards, you’re also gambling on the future? Let’s see which Su Mo this is. Tsk tsk, he looks a bit like Master Su. What, just like that you want to come and sit in the Su family’s chair?” Aunt Hong gave a disdainful giggle as she pointed her finger at the first seat, while her stern phoenix eyes were scrutinising Su Bai up and down.

Quarrelling was something Su Qicheng was the worst at, especially with one of the two most fearsome women in the family. He jumped to the side in an attempt to hide his huge body, a move that instantly exposed Su Bai and the others.

Master Su smiled and strolled idly towards the head of the conference table, oblivious to the ogling, curiousness, suspiciousness and all sorts of looks from the crowd.

“Little Hong, your mouth is still so poisonous. I have long said that to be a woman you should be more ladylike, otherwise you will never be able to get married in your life.” Master Su slowly spat out a sentence.

“What are you talking about!” Slamming the table, Su Hong looked at Su Bai angrily, her face pulsating red and white, this man actually dared to humiliate her like this in front of everyone.

“Don’t be angry, this is just what Master Su once said to me, I just quoted the original sentence.” Looking at the chair at the top, Master Su reached out and patted the arm of the chair and sighed, “You all don’t need to be so nervous, I am here today merely to introduce to everyone here in response to the instructions Master Su gave before.”

Master Su looked at the man standing to the side, “Edward, the secretary general of Organisation T from the headquarters. I’m sure his name is not unfamiliar to any of you, or if not you can go and have a cup of tea with the British government.”

Edward glanced at Su Bai, finding nothing funny with that comment.

He stepped forward and introduced himself, before giving an overview of recent events while handing out hardcopy documents to everyone present. This included the will, detailing what of the Su family properties that would be inherited by Su Mo after Su Bai’s death.

“The handwriting, including Master Su’s, has been authenticated by experts. Everyone here can go back and confirm it in person if they are unsure.” Edward swept a glance at the crowd.

“There is no need, I am familiar with Master Su’s handwriting. The writing on this is indeed signed by Master Su.” Taking in the many pieces of information in front of them, even with Su Yu confirming that it was Master Su’s handwriting, the others could no longer make a gesture of doubt.

“With just a contract document and a will, how can we easily believe that you have this qualification to become the head of the Su family?” Aunt Hong raised her doubts, and many people nodded in response.

“There is no need for you all to believe.” Su Bai’s words caused the Su Family crowd to stir up.

He looked around the week and continued, “Everyone here must know that to become the head of the Su Family you must have two things in your hands; one is ‘discipline’ and the other is ‘power’. “

“You are not wrong, and these two things have always been in Master Su’s hands. If you really are the heir designated by Master Su then you must also have ‘discipline’ and ‘power’ in your possession.” Su Yu opened her mouth. The two things that the head of the Su family must have in his hand, of which ‘discipline’ was a black ring. The wearer of the ring was directly under the command of the person in power and could kill anyone, while ‘power’ was a pure white thumb ring, a family heirloom of the Su family.

Su Bai did not answer. Sitting down in his chair, his right hand reached out to the table and gently tapped the table top. On his index finger was a pure white thumb ring, the crisp tapping each time struck the chest of everyone present. Eyes of the crowd fell onto the ‘power’ on Su Bai’s hand.

Possessing the ring was much like the emperor possessing a jade seal. Even if the crowd had doubts about Su Bai’s origins, they would not dare to question the authority of ‘power’. This was not to mention that Su Qicheng was already standing behind Su Bai, and Su Yu was also ambiguous in her stance about the situation.

Su Bai spoke, “The traitor Chen Yuan had never found the ring ‘power’, so he was not the heir of the Su family, but only a traitor who must be killed. Master Su had long expected Chen Yuan’s betrayal, but has always lamented that Chen Yuan was after all his own child and had never done anything. If one day in the future he had unfortunately gone, it will be me who will inherit the Su family and punish the traitor of the Su family.”

Aunt Hong’s mouth moved and her tone was slightly gentler than before, “And what about ‘discipline’?”

“The Su Family rules dictate that no extraneous people are allowed to be present at the meeting.” Leaning back in the soft seat, the man folded his legs and rested one hand casually on his knee, his index finger cocked.

“Bmf-” There was a muffled sound of a silenced gunshot, and the small white face beside Su Hong fell down after a violent shudder. The corners of the woman’s mouth twitched slightly as she kicked the blood-spattered male model away, her face stone-cold.

“Discipline; destroy all family traitors.” Su Bai smiled faintly, his palms opening out towards his sides, his jaw slightly raised, “Everyone, are there any objections or questions?”

Su Qicheng stood aside and rubbed his cold sweaty hands hard, coming over to Edward and muttering in a low voice, “Even though a beautiful man, but his smile has a creepy aura, just like Master Su!”

Edward frowned gently and did not say anything.

At the subsequent meeting, several key members of the Su family who had previously remained silent stood up to acknowledge “Su Mo” as the family heir. Su Bai left Su Qicheng behind, and Edward, an outsider, could only be invited out to wait for the end of the Su family’s quarterly meeting.

The meeting was over after about half an hour, Su Bai had stabilised the Su family for the time being. Although its effects only superficial, it was enough. Everything had to be done slowly step by step, simply being speedy was not sufficient.

Edward greeted Su Bai, who was the first to walk out, and said with an emotionless face, “I didn’t know you had a sniper expert with you.”

Why would I turn over my trump card to you? To this rambling headquarters secretary, Su Bai just waved his finger in front of him and smiled gently, “Your task is only what Tang Xiao tells you to do. Know what you shouldn’t know, what you shouldn’t do, and don’t get involved.”

Master Su paused to reach out and cup Edward’s jaw, the latter stepping back to avoid him. Su Bai stepped forward to wrap his arms around the other man’s waist again, a smile in his eyes, “Actually, I prefer a white, soft little beauty like you over Tang Xiao.”

“Please behave yourself!” Edward’s face turned red.

“Haha, tell Tang Xiao that I’ll be waiting for him at 8pm at the appointed place.” After a few laughs, the nasty man turned around and left, followed by Su Qicheng and Su Yu with a cadre of bodyguards.

……

……

Downstairs, Su Bai took the lead and got into the car.

Su Qicheng was just about to get in when he was grabbed out by the back collar. Su Yu unceremoniously kicked Fatty Su in the calf and pointed at the car behind him, “Move away, I’m not sitting with a fatty.”

Fatty Su almost sat on the ground while Su Yu had already stepped into the car with her red-soled heels. The car door closed, and Su Qicheng could only rub the place where he was kicked and took small steps to sit in the car behind.

“I received a message from Master Su last month, did you send it?” The news of Master Su’s death came too suddenly. A plan, even if perfect, could collapse instantly without the core of its execution. Only a few people knew about that plan.

The original plan was for Master Su to take advantage of Chen Yuan’s house arrest to have Su Yu and the others investigate the family’s traitors, and the final step was for Master Su to take a plane to China to first capture Chen Yuan before slaughtering the betrayers.

And just last month, Su Yu received a contact from Master Su, all as seen today.

With his head leaning against the back of the car seat, Master Su looked very relaxed with his eyes closed. Finally back in the seat that was rightfully his, it felt good to be on top, did it not?

He opened his mouth slowly, “Su Yu, don’t forget your position.”

Su Yu frowned slightly, then raised her red lips and said with a bitter smile, “You speak exactly like Fourth Uncle. Just now during the meeting I thought you were putting on an air of authority, but I didn’t expect it to be the same now. Outsiders say that Fourth Uncle is a ruthless and heartless man, but he is actually very good to those close to him.”

The woman looked out of the window as if she was caught up in a long-ago memory; the Master Su she remembered was an elder who would dance to make her happy. Any man, even if he stood at the top, was still just a human man.

Su Bai looked deeply at this niece of his and smiled faintly, “He will be very happy to hear you say that.”

Su Yu suddenly stretched out his arms and hugged Su Bai, a guttural choking sound from the woman came from his arms, “I knew he wouldn’t abandon us, he’s a jade-faced Yan Luo, how could he die? My fourth uncle how could he die, he’s the only one who loves me…”

Master Su looked down at the little girl who had flung herself into his arms and started crying. He could not help but smile lightly, reaching out to gently stroke Su Yu’s back, as if he had comforted her when the girl was still small. A gentle, quiet touch.

His eyes fell through the window on the grey and white scenery that flew by outside, his voice low and gentle, “So I’m back, little girl, your fourth uncle is back.”

Su Yu jerked her head up to look straight at the man, a pretty face washed with tears into a flower-faced cat.

Gently cupping the woman’s jaw, Master Su bent down and whispered in Su Yu’s ear as the car sped through the streets of Berlin, a hustle and bustle of the city.
